Ruling party wins general election in Belize

first_imgPrime Minister Dean BarrowBELMOPAN, Belize, Nov 05 2015 – Prime Minister Dean Barrow has led his ruling United Democratic Party (UDP) to a third consecutive general election victory.The party won 19 of the 29 seats declared so far.In the last general election in 2012, the UDP won 17 of the 31 seats in the Parliament.Authorities in Belize say there was a modest turnout for Wednesday’s voting.No incidents were reported in the voting for the House of Representatives.Barrow UDP faced the opposition People’s United Party, which ran on a platform of free education and national health insurance.Barrow has been in office since 2008. Morton has an update on additional commodity food distribution dates.Mountain Valley Economic Opportunity Authority ADDITIONAL Commodity Food Distribution:May and July 2020Because of the economic hardship caused by COVID-19,ADDITIONAL COMMODITY DISTRIBUTIONS FOR CAMPBELL, CLAIBORNE, MORGAN, SCOTT & UNION CountiesUSDA Commodity and Food additional Distributions have been scheduled as follows; Campbell – 5/12 and 7/14 for Jellico and 5/13 and 7/15 for La Follette.  Claiborne – 5/22 and 7/24, Morgan – 5/14 and 7/16, Scott – 5/14 and 7/16, Union – 5/13 and 7/15. All distributions will be given at the regular distribution sites.
