Kolkata: A clash broke out between the supporters of Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in Acharya Prafulla Chandra College at New Barrackpore in North 24-Parganas on Monday afternoon. Several supporters of both the organisations were injured in the clash. According to sources, on Monday ABVP supporters went to submit a deputation to the principal of the college regarding alleged corruption in connection with the admission procedure. The situation was initially handled by the police personnel deputed there, but it turned worse after the ABVP supporters came out of the principal’s room after submitting the deputation. It has been alleged that the ABVP supporters had brought some outsiders, who had verbally abused the TMCP supporters. When the TMCP supporters protested, the ABVP supporters allegedly resorted to hooliganism. While the clash was going on, vehicular movement on Madhyamgram-Sodepur Road was obstructed as the clash reached the road. Later, a large contingent of police arrived and brought the situation under control. The ABVP supporters alleged that the TMCP supporters had attacked first. In the clash, several persons from both the organisations were injured. Two complaints have been lodged by both organisations against each other at New Barrackpore police station regarding the clash.
